Dasa Anjaneyar temple!

This blogpost is about Anjaneyar, even since childhood being a great fan of Ramayanam. I love Anjaneyar for lot of reasons, including his super powers and calmness . And this is the temple where you can find me every weekend when I am in Dharmapuri. He is my best friend, I go to this temple and share all my thoughts and experience with him. The Iyer of this temple is too good to let me sit for few hours every week and I also do cleanup the temple. My mom is a regular visitor as well, whatever I had asked him, he makes sures that it will happen after some time. Everytime I want to score good marks, he was there. Everytime I want my teacher to not come to the class, he was there. The images in this temple are also great. This temple "Sri Dasa Anjaneya Temple" is located in Sri Hariharanatha Swami temple street, and is about one and half kilo meters from the main Dharmapuri bus stand. We can have dharshan of Sri Anjaneya from the main entrance itself.  It is a powerful temple.

Adhiyamankottam

The capital of Adhiyamans, ancient rulers of Tagadur, was Adhiyamankottam which is situated on the Salem-Dharmapuri road at a distance of 7 Km from Dharmapuri. The ruins of the roughly oval shaped fort is still there. The Chenraya Perumal temple is the biggest of the lot which is held as a protected monument which is believed to have been constructed both by the King Krishna Deva Raya and Hoysala Kings. There is a mandapam which leads to the sanctum sanctorium. There are paintings in the ceiling depicting scenes from the Mahabaratham, Viswarupa dharshan of Lord Krishna and some scenes from Ramayana and is still pleasing to the eye. All the paintings are belonging to 13 century. There is an underground passage connecting this temple to the town for about 8 kms. It is beleived that the kings used it for worshipping the Kottai temple in town.

Theerthamalai Temple.

Theerthamalai is an important scacred place in Harur taluk of Dharmapuri District. Shri Theerthagirishwarar Temple is located at the top of a hillock. Chola and Vijayanagara Kings donated liberally to this temple. A lot of devotees throng the temple during the Mahashivarathiri. The Department of Tourism has a Guest Houses for the benefit of the devotees. Theerthamalai is declared as an important tourist spot in Dharmapuri District. The Sivan here is just real giving me goose bumps eveytime I visit.You can find buses from Harur and there is one waterfall which never gets dry

Hogenekkal Water Falls

Hogenakal is situated at the borders of Karnataka at 46 km from Dharmapuri. In Hogenakal the river Cauvery enters into Tamil Nadu as a big river with gushing water presentably as a natural falls.This is called as 'Niagra of Temilnadu'. The name Hogenakal is derived from Kannada means 'Smoky Rocks'. The river when falls on the rock below, the gushing force of water resembles like smoke emanating from the rocks. At Hogenakal the water spreads for miles around and on these waters cruising on country made dinghies (PARISAL) is possible. Parisal ride will give an enthralling experience.You would never forget the taste of Freshwater fish if you taste it here from the local shops. Surrounding by hills at various heights Hogenakal offers the visitors a different ambience and refreshing relaxations. One could also take bath in the falls. Oil massaging by local people is a different experience. As the river flows throughout the year Hogenakal can be visited all days through the year. Please dont visit this spot during monsoons, you will not be permitted to enter due to flood. Goverment buses are available from Dharmapuri every half an hour.Dont forgrt to taste the fishes available here and also enjoy the boat(parisal) rides over 100ft water. It has crocodile park and an amusement park is yet to come here.

History of Dharmapuri District

Dharmapuri District was created in 1966, when it was separated from Salem District. Krishnagiri District was formerly part of Dharmapuri, becoming a separate district in 2004. The earliest known chieftain who ruled Tagadur (present Dharmapuri) during the Sangam era, is Adigaman Naduman Anji, whose patronage sustained the famous poetess Avvaiyar. The next we hear in the 8th century when the northern parts of Salem District were probably under the Pallavas regime. Subsequently, we hear of the Ganga Pallavas having sway over the Western parts of the Salem District. The Western Gangas are also mentioned as having ruled Baramahal during the end of the 8th century.
Dharmapuri district comprises two revenue division Dharmapuri and Harur.

There are five taluks namely Dharmapuri, Palacode, Pennagaram, Harur and Pappireddipatti.

There are eleven Urban Local Bodies out of which one is Dharmapuri Municipality and ten Town Panchayats namely Marandahalli, B.Mallapuram, Palacode, Pennagaram, Karimanagalam, Kambainallur, Harur, Papparapatti, Kadathur, Pappireddipatti.

There are eight Panchayat Unions as follows: Dharmapuri, Nallampalli, Palacode, Pennagaram, Karimanagalam, Morappur, Harur, Pappireddipatti.

Mudhampatti Anjaneyar Temple and Trek

One of my favourite Anjaneyar temple , historical one with a natural rock formation. I get there once in a month in my bike going through a forest full of monkeys. I love this god and the area around it. Whenever I think of him, he appears infront of me in  the form of a money.

This temple located about 25 Kms from Dharmapuri town is one of the places that should be worth visiting. The Famous Anjaneyar temple is located here. This temple is considered to be the most powerful temple in dharmapuri by the local people. Devotees from Salem, Dharmapuri and Andhra are frequent vistors to this temple. To reach this temple you have to travel till Nallampalli( on the way to salem) from Dharmapuri by Gvt buses and from there about 4 Kms by walk. Most of them prefer to go by foot. But if you try for bus only one is available that too on saturdays. The best option is to hire a car. You will definitely enjoy the visit as the road to it will be covered by mounntains and river on both sides and if you are lucky you can see some wildanimals.
This temple is constucted in 1960 by the railway department. The swami(suyambu) will be in open air resembling the scenes of carrying sanjeevi hill. I usually get there for his blessing and feed the monkeys around the area. He will be there throughout my life in one or the other forms even though I move out of this Dharmapuri. I will move out next year, post comments to guide new devotees.
